Art of the architect

“Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness…”

Frank Gehry

How do you start to design something? How do you describe the initial concept to clients? All sorts of CAD and 3D software is available, that should help? Probably not. We were sold on the unique design of our beach house by a casual drawing almost literally on the back of an envelope. Frank Gehry is a celebrated North American architect, probably the most influential since Frank Lloyd Wright. What does he do? His method involves a loose, organic, childlike sketch using a fountain pen and paper. The tangle of lines shown above went on to become the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. #ultimateurbansketching #letsmakelemonade
