“The electic light did not come from the continuous improvement of candles…”
Oren Harari
As an old Unley High boy, I spent a lot of time in this area. My best friend lived in Urrbrae. Until a recent Urban sketching trip, I had never seen this building and the amazing surrounding gardens. This was the home built by Peter Waite in 1891. Upon his death it was bequeathed along with a large parcel of land to the University of Adelaide. It is now the centrepiece of the Waite Campus of the University. This home was highly innovative. It was the first SA home to have electric lights and was the first Australian residence with an electric fridge. The gardens are freely open to the public. My wife informs me that the adjacent arboretum is a perfect spot for bird photography. #sundaystroll #letsmakelemonade
