Building an interest in pens

“Some minds are like concrete, all mixed up and permanently set…”

Nearly all the fountain pens that you see in the real world, as opposed to the Urushi lacquers I like to post in this blog, will be made from acrylic resin. This material is affordable, lightweight and can be endlessly colourful and pretty. Other pens will be made of wood or sleek modern metals. I am not a fan of the feel of a metal section, and wood can easily stain with ink. What else is out there? Ben Walsh is from Ireland, Dublin to be exact. Ben has a background as an Art student and wood turner. He thinks outside the square. Originally he planned to make a range of high end concrete furniture. As he tested techniques and materials, he decided to make a one off pen for his Dad, a fountain pen lover. Now he has a pen company, Ben Walsh Design. Their flagship product is the concrete pen. Should I try to get one? #donttellmelissa #letsmakelemonade
