Little pocket of Japan

“The art of a Japanese garden is the art of stone placement…”

Isamu Noguchi

A few decades ago it was fashionable for towns or suburbs in different parts of the world to become sister cities. It was done for cultural and economic exchange. In the pandemic world of 2021 it seems weird and more than a little sad. The Japanese city of Himeji became a sister city of Adelaide in 1982. To commemorate this, the Japanese gardener Yoshitaka created a garden in the South Parklands. This garden is an amazing place. The small details matter in this space. For example, the stepping stones are shorter than the usual adult gait – a psychological trick to make you slow down and take your time.#anotheradelaidesecret #letsmakelemonade
