“Watch your thoughts, they become your words…’
Winston Churchill
The painting seen above is the 1491 work, Trinity with the Saints. It is considered to be one of the most significant canvases of Sandro Botticelli. The work is currently housed in the collection of the Coulthauld Insitute in London. It was the gift of Sir Arthur Hawthorn Lee, 1st Viscount of Fareham. Sir Arthur was a key British benefactor and donor. The Botticelli originally hung in the drawing room of Chequers Country House, part Sir Arthur’s family estate. Indeed such was the Viscount’s generousity, that in 1917 he gave Chequers to the UK Government, to become the country residence of the Prime Minister. Winston Churchill spent most weekends here even at the height of WW2. Churchill found Chequers at place to relax and reflect during this period of unimaginable pressure and tension. #escapetothecountry #letsmakelemonade
