“Adelaide was the last place I ever stole…”
Ronald Biggs
If you are feeling a little tired or under the weather at the moment, it might be a combination of Festival, Fringe and WOMAD. This is the man to blame. Sir Frederick Lloyd Dumas was born in Mt Barker in 1891. Dumas was a highly regarded journalist, who in 1929 became the editor of The Advertiser. He was the brainchild behind a campaign to create a local arts festival based on the highly successful Edinburgh model. The Adelaide festival launched 1960, with the fringe basically tagging along. WOMAD became a thing in 2012. If the portrait seems familiar it is the work of Ivor Hele. The style is very RACS president. #madmarch # letsmakelemonade
