Is that a Pomlazka in your pocket?

“Easter is when we celebrate Jesus getting hammered …”

Ellen Mary Walsh

I feel Easter in Australia is in a rut. Boring, predictable and commercial. Don’t get me started on Hot X buns appearing in supermarkets on Boxing Day. Australia needs to explore more Easter traditions. For example, in the Czech Republic it is common for men to carefully braid willow tree branches and to decorate them brightly. That in itself sounds fun, but it gets better. The Pomlazka are then used by men to attract women. Women who are not impressed with the offering are allowed to respond with a cold bucket of water. Perhaps Easter eggs are are still a good option. #funtimesahead #letsmakelemonade
